A great way to start the school day, concert band is a full-year elective at Phillipsburg High School where students play a range of orchestral pieces. The concert band is made up of woodwind and brass instruments, as well as percussion. These include piccolo, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone and euphonium. The concert band performs at both the winter concert and spring concert, as well as at one competition per year.
Sections of the marching band include brass, woodwinds, drumline and front ensemble.
The swingin-ist band at Phillipsburg, the jazz ensemble is an audition-only grouped shaped by four sections: the saxophones, trombones, trumpets and rhythm. The Saxophone section includes alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and baritone saxophone. The rhythm section is made up of piano, guitar, bass, drum set and keyboard percussion. The jazz ensemble performs at the winter and spring concerts, and various competitions and events. In the 2022-2023 season the jazz ensemble had the privilege to perform at Flynn's on the Hill, the Warren County Top Ten dinner and the Easton Jazz Festival receiving a rating of "Outstanding" and the best trumpet section award
From basketball games to wrestling matches, lacrosse and beyond, the band shows up to more than just football games. A smaller group of students within the marching band bring the noise of the Friday nights in the fall to games in the winter and spring.
Working alongside the Drama Club, the pit orchestra brings the sounds and music of each spring musical to life. Just like other ensembles, the pit is made up of students. The orchestra regularly receives nominations for the annual Freddy Awards.
